Flat River Outreach Ministries backpack registration now open

Although it may feel like the school year just ended, Flat River Outreach Ministries (FROM) is already gearing up for the 2025-2026 school year. Their annual backpack distribution provides backpacks with school supplies, specific to students’ grade level and school, to help them start the school year off on the right foot.

“The backpack distribution has been amazing,” A FROM client shared. “Our income goes down in the summer months and back to school is a big expense. I’m thankful!”

The program is available to students entering preschool through 12th grade, living in the Lowell Area School District, whose household income is 300% or less of the Federal Poverty Level.

On the day of the distribution, along with picking out a backpack and collecting schools supplies, FROM also welcomes in local community groups and nonprofits to help bolster excitement for a new school year. This year, vision screenings, and dental supplies will be available, and Lowell Area Schools will have a bus onsite for students to check out.

“We love seeing students light up with excitement with their new supplies, and being able to sit on a school bus,” Wendie Preiss, FROM executive director, said. “Last year we equipped nearly 275 with a backpack filled with supplies to start the school year off on the right foot. None of this would be possible without the support of our community.”

Registration is open now through July 31. To learn more about the program, or to sign up today, visit: www.fromlowell.org/backpack-distribution/
