The menu at Los Portales is a mixture of simple to more complicated dishes in Mexican cuisine; from good tacos to Molcajete which has a little bit of everything, steak, chicken, and shrimp in a flavorful red sauce.

The bonfire itself will take place across the street from Fallasburg Historical Society’s schoolhouse building, where food and drinks are served. The food will be served potluck-style. Though participants are not required to bring a dish to pass, they are more than welcome to do so.

Then on July 1st, after she and Chaye Klomparens, also a LHS Spanish teacher, got back from a student trip to Costa Rica, Ellis heard some news about her third application. It was good news. She had won the Fulbright Award.

WWC WinterFest will take place this Saturday, Feb. 3 from 10 am to 3 pm.

The parcel, which is zoned PUD for industrial and commercial use, is located at the southwest corner of Cascade Road and Alden Nash, just north of I-96; with its proximity to a major highway and minutes from an international airport, Covenant Business Park has been considered to be the finest parcel available in greater Grand Rapids.

Lowellians can expect at least a rough 36 hours of winter to come in starting on Friday. Lowell Area Schools have already closed for the day tomorrow and all athletic and school events canceled for Friday and Saturday.

“The kids get to play and the moms get to enjoy their coffee. We have a sensory room, too; when the kids get over-stimulated and overwhelmed, a parent can take them into that room, a room with kinetic sand, rocking chairs, a swing, and a light table.”

In October, we planned out our podcast series with both Al Eckman and Laurie Summerfield, and are excited to be able to offer this additional media opportunity to the Lowell community.

As one of our first podcasts, we sat down with Al to learn a little bit more about WRWW. 

When Bichler turned fourteen, he picked up a guitar that he could call his own. Some friends had played guitar in the middle school talent show, and he enjoyed playing, even though he described himself as bad. Bichler can absolutely shred now, and he really could not back then, so it stands to reason that he was bad, at least according to his current standards, but we will have to take him on his word for it.

“I like to take care of people, and Lowell has been great to us,” said Bek. “For a few years, we were the only game in town, and then the contractors came into town and started, but there is enough work for everybody. Ninety-nine percent of what we do is residential. It’s fun to deal with people. A lot of good people. We go to their house, the door is unlocked, the check is on the counter. ‘Don’t let the cat out.’ That’s very nice about Lowell. We’ve been involved with the community, with the Chamber, Rotary Club and helping out with Flat River Outreach Ministries.”

Under the guidance of Cherry Creek Elementary teacher and Early Act Advisor, Joseph Audia, and with the support of the Lowell Rotary Club, these students worked hard to organize a toy-drive to positively impact the lives of families in need during the holiday season.

“Heywood Banks delivered distinct performances last Friday and Saturday nights, each concluding with the crowd-favorite “Toast”, said TOT co-owner, David Reed. On Saturday, he showcased some of his classic tunes. Renowned for his seasoned expertise, Banks displayed impeccable timing in both his monologue and the humor between songs, according to Reed.

In the main roles, Audrey Alexander dances as Clara, Lowell High School student, Connor Rapson, plays the Nutcracker, and Noah Trulock as Uncle Drosselmeyer, who is one of the co-directors. “Connor began dancing a year ago; it’s outstanding what he’s been able to accomplish so quickly,” Hannah said. “Audrey has danced for me for many years, and she is a wonderful young talent with an amazing work ethic.”

Rogers thanked the anonymous benefactor and communicated that the project was within $17,000 of goal. Shortly thereafter, he received a text message from the same individual explaining that they were going to provide the final $17,000, as well. The new Lowell Skatepark was back on the table. “We can’t express how thankful we are to have someone just come in there and rescue us to get us to our goal,” Rogers said.

Owners of TOT, Lisa and David Reed, are committed to preserving the historic venue, continuing their mission by offering family-friendly entertainment and generating revenue for the restoration of the structure. “Each show promises an unforgettable blend of humor and music, creating an atmosphere of pure joy and holiday cheer,” co- owner, David Reed, said.

The concept is simple and based on the popular “12 Days of Christmas” song. Now, through December 20, visit participating Lowell area businesses and collect “12 Days of Christmas” trading cards. Once you have at least one card to represent each of the “12 Days” (four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, etc.), simply show your cards at the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce, during standard business hours or during special hours for Santa Visits on the Lowell Showboat VI, and be entered to win $100 in Lowell Buck$. One winner will be drawn on Thursday, December 21, 2023.

Our small town gives BIG. When it comes to giving, it is not all about the money, even if that is the measuring stick that usually comes to mind. Donating money was not the beginning and ending the people who started Giving Tuesday had in mind, far from it. They promote and encourage all kinds of giving and sharing.
