Her students read over 60,000 minutes, over a five-week period, an impressive feat. The ReadBowl is part of the Share the Magic Foundation. Started in 2016 by Malcom Mitchell, a former NFL player who played for the New England Patriots, the ReadBowl has motivated thousands of students across the globe.

Harper Postema takes on the role of Gaston, and he says that, “Even though a lot of stress comes with this role, it’s a lot of fun! I get to do some great comedy bits in the show, and the challenge of stepping out of my comfort zone - singing, dancing, and portraying a character, who is the polar opposite of myself, onstage - is very fulfilling.”

Lowell nonprofits have put their board game donations to good use. Tyson Hoffman, the Childcare Director at Litehouse Family YMCA, has handed out board games to participants in the nonprofit’s various children’s programs, and Shannon Jammal-Hollemans, the Pastor at First Congregational UCC of Lowell, reported that the church is selling board games, at a cost of $10 per game, with proceeds going toward youth programming.

“The Governor's Educator Advisory Council consists of 15 voting members appointed by the governor and includes individuals representing various roles in Michigan's public education system, including the Michigan Teacher of the Year.”

“It kind of was like a perfect storm this year,” City Manager Burns noted. “Am I concerned that the sky is falling over us? No.”

For the Kremers, the idea of expanding and adding a second Frosty Boy location, after so many years of success in Cascade, was always in the back of their minds, and the location could not be better, as the family lives right between Cascade and Lowell.

The menu at Los Portales is a mixture of simple to more complicated dishes in Mexican cuisine; from good tacos to Molcajete which has a little bit of everything, steak, chicken, and shrimp in a flavorful red sauce.

The bonfire itself will take place across the street from Fallasburg Historical Society’s schoolhouse building, where food and drinks are served. The food will be served potluck-style. Though participants are not required to bring a dish to pass, they are more than welcome to do so.

Then on July 1st, after she and Chaye Klomparens, also a LHS Spanish teacher, got back from a student trip to Costa Rica, Ellis heard some news about her third application. It was good news. She had won the Fulbright Award.

WWC WinterFest will take place this Saturday, Feb. 3 from 10 am to 3 pm.

Lowellians can expect at least a rough 36 hours of winter to come in starting on Friday. Lowell Area Schools have already closed for the day tomorrow and all athletic and school events canceled for Friday and Saturday.

“The kids get to play and the moms get to enjoy their coffee. We have a sensory room, too; when the kids get over-stimulated and overwhelmed, a parent can take them into that room, a room with kinetic sand, rocking chairs, a swing, and a light table.”
