Lightning and Hailstorm Postpone Varsity Lacrosse Game

After an hour lightning delay, players, fans, officials held out some hope that the Lowell Varsity Boys Lacrosse game against Holland West Ottawa would be played tonight. When the pounding sound of hail struck though, they knew it was over.

The scene that followed as the hail poured down and covered the North Athletic Complex was cool to say the least. The game is tenatively scheduled to be played at 11:00am on Saturday. An official announcement will be made by the school later on.

The JV team won 6-5 prior to the storms that rolled in. It wasn’t the only time this school year that weather postponed an outdoor event. One high profile example was the Lowell vs. Mattawan football game to kickoff the year where a tornado warning for a tornado touchdown in Belmont, along with heavy winds, rain, and lightning, postponed that in-progress game to a finish the next day.

The bad news? No varsity lacrosse game tonight. The good news? We got to see a unique weather phenomenon at LHS unfold. Also, I got a free hot dog which is always nice. Check out some photos of the hailstorm in the above gallery.
