FERRIS
Joshua Michael Ferris, age 35, of Lowell, passed away unexpectedly on June 8, 2025, at his home.
Born on May 15, 1990, in Grand Rapids, Josh made his home in Lowell for the last 32 years. A 2008 graduate of Lowell High School, he spent much of his adult life working in various service roles—from hospitality and animal shelters to elder care. No matter the setting, Josh showed up with dedication and compassion. He had an unmatched work ethic and a genuine desire to care for others, especially the ones who needed it most. Josh had a deep and tender love for animals, babies/children and the elderly, often saying they were the only people who really made sense. Whether it was playing his guitar and singing, heading out for a round of disc golf, or remembering his dirt bike or soccer days, Josh carried his own rhythm through life, even in the hardest of seasons. He had a quiet strength, a fiercely loyal heart, and a spirit that resonated with simplicity, sincerity, and kindness.
He is survived by his parents, Michael and Ruthanne Ferris; his little sister and brother-in-law, Heather and Michael Visscher; his beloved dog Kane, his constant companion for the past 12 years, whom he rescued and loved deeply. Josh and Kane were inseparable, sharing a bed every night and countless hours of fetch, which Kane never seemed to tire of. That bond was a quiet kind of love that spoke louder than words ever could. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard and Lynne Ferris, and Donald and Martha Bird. Along with many other friends and extended family members.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday July 19, 2025 to honor Josh’s memory in a way that truly reflects who he was. From 3 to 7 p.m., at Qua-Ke-Zik Sportsman Club, located at 8731 Riverside Dr., Saranac, Mi 48881. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Josh by spending time with someone in need, whether that’s a lonely neighbor, a rescue pet, or an aging friend, and offer them a little extra love, just like Josh would have.
