Stephen “Steve” J. Larkin, born August 24, 1945, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, after battling disease and a broken heart. He graduated high school in 1964 from Catholic Central, which is where he met and fell in love with Josephine Curcuru, the love of his life. They went on to marry and enjoyed 57 wonderful years together. Steve proudly joined the United States Marine Corps and fought for our country in Vietnam. He worked his way up the ranks and became a Sergeant, leading a group of soldiers into active duty as combat Marines.

There is no doubt he was able to lead his men in saving countless lives of soldiers and local civilians. Steve not only was an American hero, but he was also our hero. He was completely devoted to his family. He leaves behind his loving family, including his two daughters, who will forever be changed by his unwavering love and support, Patricia (Dave Pearce) Larkin, Julia (Richard) Dodge; grandchildren, Steven (Gabbi) Krause, Dennis Pearce, Brittany Larkin, Dylan Dodge, John Pearce, Rachel Dodge; great grandchildren, Amiyah, Gianna, Lexis, Bailey, and Brody. Steve was a successful businessman and entrepreneur. Many people will remember him from his days of owning and running Larkin’s Saloon in Lowell, Michigan.

He then went on to start a successful automotive paint-finishing company in Grand Rapids with two of his brothers. He enjoyed golfing, going to the casino, and travelling with family - taking many road trips out west and even long-distance trips around the world, seeing many different countries and locations. Steve had a love for old cars that he shared with his brother and nephews. He made such an impact on so many people’s lives. Steve was always there when you needed him. May he now rest in peace, and enjoy eternity with his love, Josephine. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 6390 Belmont Ave NE, Belmont, MI 49306, with visitation at starting 10 a.m. A luncheon will follow the mass and Military Honors ceremony.
