W. JAMES SOWLE

A Navy veteran, he dedicated himself to various endeavors, including teaching at Forest Hills Public Schools, working at Design Underwriting, and owning Lowell Water Works Carwash.

W. James Sowle, age 88 of Lowell, passed away in Florida on January 1, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theo Sowle and Elizabeth Hunter Sowle; brother, Lt Col Peter H. Sowle; daughter-in-law, Daniella Sowle. James is survived by his wife, Ann T. Sowle; children, Michael L. (Sue Danne) Sowle, Kelly E. (Molly South) Sowle, Susan J. (Robert) Kieffer, Pike D. Sowle, Zak H. (Elizabeth) Sowle; grandchildren, Hunter, Henry, James, Benjamin, Angela Sowle, and Kara Milton; brother, Stephen J. (Janice) Sowle; sister Janet (Dennis) Deans; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeannie Dennis Sowle, John R. (Rita) Kirkwood, and Kathleen M. (Thomas) Carnegie; nieces and nephews, Cynthia Sowle, Beth Sowle, Kathy Sowle, Melissa Powell, Ted Sowle, Amy Vires, and Zachary Sowle.

Jim earned his MA in Industrial Arts from CMU after graduating in the class of 1953 from Catholic Central. A Navy veteran, he dedicated himself to various endeavors, including teaching at Forest Hills Public Schools, working at Design Underwriting, and owning Lowell Water Works Carwash. Along with being part of the Lowell Rotary Club, Jim enjoyed woodworking, stained glass art, motorcycling, flying, scuba diving, camping, and traveling. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 6-8 pm at Roth-Gerst Funeral Home, 305 N Hudson, Lowell, MI 49331. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am on Friday, May 17, 2024, at St. Robert’s Catholic Church, 6477 Ada Dr. SE, Ada, MI 49301, with visitation one hour prior. Interment St. Mary Cemetery.
