Lowell Orchestras Compete at District Festivals

During the first week of March, the Lowell High School Orchestras competed at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association District Orchestra Festival held at Calvin University. Lowell High School, which has an excellent music program, had three orchestras compete. There is the chamber orchestra, which is typically a smaller orchestra without woodwind and brass instruments. Next is the concert orchestra which is focused on preparation through classical pieces. Last is the Lowell symphony orchestra, which is a much larger classical orchestra which includes string, wind, brass, percussion instruments, and is a bit more advanced.

The good news? All three of the LHS Orchestras earned a top rating of "superior" from the concert judges. It's another excellent result for the program who could benefit from improved orchestra facilities if the 2024 Lowell Area Schools bond proposal passes, that is one of the improvements at LHS in the proposal. For more on this, you can listen to our podcast with Lowell Area Schools Superintendent Nate Fowler at lowellledger.org/podcasts

Future events held by the Lowell Music program include hosting the MSBOA State Band and Orchestra Festival on May 2 and May 3, 2024, and a senior solo concert for the high school’s symphony and chamber orchestras in taking place at the Lowell Performing Arts Center on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 7:00pm. Lowell’s orchestra programs are under the direction of Wendy Tenney.
