Pink Arrow Community Day Brightens Up Riverwalk

Last Thursday, the riverwalk turned pink to celebrate Pink Arrow Community day. The annual event serves as the first chance to buy Pink Arrow t-shirts and accessories in person, which is the highlight of the evening. The t-shirts may be the highlight, but there was plenty of other reason to have stopped by.

A blood drive, mammography bus, and organ donor registration was available, keeping with the theme of health-conciousness during Pink Arrow.

One local vendor was the talk of the town, "Ball’s Dogs". Despite selling the Ball’s Softee Creme business, those behind Ball’s have made their locally famous chili, with a recipe over 50 years old, and hot dogs available for purchase in a food truck style vending operation. They were set up at the event along with a few other local vendors.

Vibrant pink was the theme of the day, and the shirts showcased that. Difficulties with t-shirts last year were quite prominent. The grey t-shirt design was universally disliked. A sea of grey doesn’t really appeal to the eye does it? Lack of sizing was a struggle across the board. Particularly a lack of both adult medium and adult large shirts at all locations.

RaizedUp is seeking to fix this in their first year as t-shirt provider. First, this year’s shirts returned to pink. Second, the company and Pink Arrow have seeked to focus on sizes that more universally fit the average American.

Sizes based on a few sources for adult sizing should go as follows: XS: 1 percent · S: 7 percent · M: 28 percent · L: 30 percent · XL: 20 percent · 2XL: 12 percent · 3XL+: 2 percent.

The local company is not new to Pink Arrow, being highlighted in a future Ledger for their role, they have made the football and soccer program’s jerseys the past few years, is offering an online option this year, and is producing fan jerseys for this year’s event. They were on site along with Fandangled, one of three locations including Heidi’s Farmstand and Red Barn Market, where you can buy t-shirts in person.

Local businesses also draped pink lights to match the newly printed pink shirts, banners, and other pink items as the showboat and riverwalk served as a pretty background for the evening.

Pink Arrow athletic events run Wednesday, September 11th, to Friday, September 13th. T-shirts get you into all of the events; soccer, football, and volleyball.
