VANDERSLOOT

Melissa S. Vandersloot, age 43, of Sparta, Michigan, passed away on July 18, 2025, after a medical complication in her home. Melissa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lee and Cec Scholten; her uncle, Jim Scholten; her father-in-law, Glenn Vandersloot; and very good friend, Jason. Melissa is survived by her son, Jaron Henning; daughter, Mackenzie Vandersloot; her parents, Gail and Wolfgang Roth; grandparents, Bill and Karla Fisher; and mother-in-law, Jeanne Vandersloot. Melissa is also survived by her former husband, Nick Vandersloot; friend Chad; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. A loving daughter, mother, and friend, Melissa will long be remembered and so very missed. She was a full-time mother to her son, Jaron, born in 2001.

She enjoyed attending his football and lacrosse matches and volunteered as a team manager. In 2003, Melissa married Nick Vandersloot and they had a daughter, Mackenzie, in 2005. Melissa continued to be a full-time mom, taking her children to parks, playgrounds, fairs, and various activities. They built a house near Lowell and used their boat for swimming, tubing, and fishing.

The family made many treasured memories together and later remained friends. Once the children were grown, she worked at various jobs and stayed in touch with friends and family. She was the bubbly personality in any gathering full of laughter and kindness, and always said thank you. Melissa, who mostly went by Missy, loved camping, yard sales, cats, everything mushroom and fairies, and she wore lots of necklaces, bracelets, and rings. Friends are invited to visit with Melissa’s family on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home - Van Strien Creston Chapel, 1833 Plainfield Ave NE., Grand Rapids, MI.
